Alaina Whitaker didn't make the final 16 on "american idol."
The voting public cut loose Alaina Whitaker, Jason Yeager, Robbie Carrico and Alexandrea Lushington, trimming the number of contestants to 16 Thursday night.
Whitaker, a 16-year-old from Tulsa, Oklahoma, let out a sob after she heard the result.
"Sorry, this is so embarrassing," she told host Ryan Seacrest, who consoled her with a hug.
The other "Idol" female contestants gathered on stage to lend moral support to Whitaker as she gave a final performance of "Hopelessly Devoted to You." Several contestants wiped away tears...." cnn.com

Whoa. I thought that was a photo of Carrie Underwood. I haven't been watching this season to know. Does she really look like Carrie?
Who are the big stand-outs this year? I want to be completely blown away by a clip, but I don't want to slog through entire episodes. Any recommendations on who you look out for?

She looks nothing like Carrie with a big gap between her teeth, but that's just my opinion. She was sweet, but not one of the best, so she needed to go sooner or later.
ebeast: top 4 I'd say are David Archuleta (he will get the tween vote--he's sorta like the High School Musical sensation that everyone seems to love these days); David Hernandez, who has an incredible voice, and not bad looking either, but I'm not sure which crowd he will get the vote from. Girls are Carly (an Irish girl who has amazing vocals...but like Melinda last year, I don't think she will have the popular vote unfortunately), and then maybe Sayesha, who's got incredible spunk and heart and decent vocals as well.
Oh-and there is a gay guy--Danny--who I think will get the votes from all those Sanjaya lovers out there. LOL

I think I voted like crazy for seasons one and two. I totally watched obsessively all until this season. I think Project Runway and Make Me a Supermodel took its place. :)

Well this is the last week until the top 12 are announced. Thats when the competition gets better and addicting to watch every week. I think that Asia'h and Michael have a good chance at winning too. We will just have to watch and see.
