"CHICAGO (AP) - A publicist says Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian Bernie Mack has died at age 50.

Publicist Danica Smith says Bernie Mac died early Saturday at a hospital in the Chicago area of complications due to pneumonia.

The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005...."

Not shocked, he was diagnosed a few years ago with sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs.

It's crazy because when he was admitted in the hospital someone started a rumor that he died and now a week later,he's gone for real...
Reply | Flag as Abuse | posted 3 months ago
It's interesting what a "leak" will do for you. I heard that same rumor and contend that it was information about the gravity of his condition that was being leaked but for them to come right out and say it w/o permission would have been a huge violation of HIPPA.

Bernie, As one of the Original Kings of Comedy, you have made us laugh, cry and scream out loud. You are now with the Ultimate King, Rest In Peace. We will miss you terribly. No one even reported that he was sick in the hospital. What a shock this was.

There is no way he just died from pneumonia! You'd have to be elderly with a weak immune system to die from that. I'm sure there was something more

He suffered, as do I, from sarcoidoisis.
To blame it on smoking is ignorant. I have never been a smoker.
Do you blame diabetics for second-hand candy? It is ignorant to even speak of "blame" when discussing a disease.

well why don't you fools register if you got something to say. he suffered from sarcoidosis, yes but people who smoke like he did have weak lungs plain and simple, an top of this he never quit smoking when he was diagnosed...

Say what you want but obviously you have never been in the hosptial with a whole floor of pneumonia patients, the ones who smoke are the ones they expect not to make it.

second hand candy that makes no sense... diabetics is genetic but is also triggered by eating to many of the wrong foods yes.

Due to the weakened pulmonary system, a decrease in lung capacity, an increase in respiratory congestion, and an impaired ability to cough following injury, which is important in ridding the body of congestion.

Although respiratory function is significantly reduced by SCI, smoking worsens your risk for complications. Smoking irreversibly destroys lung tissue. This damage reduces ability of the lungs to clear secretions, which means there is an added increase of congestion in lungs and windpipe. Therefore, there is an even greater risk for respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
