Quote: "Palin, 44, is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years. Palin's selection was a stunning surprise, as McCain passed over many other better known prospects, some of whom had been the subject of intense speculation for weeks or months.

While it's nice that he's selected a non-old-white-dude as a running mate, this is such a hamfisted, obvious and cynical attempt to attract some attention that it just doesn't have any sense of sincerity behind it.
Still, it'll be entertaining to watch McCain try to sell her on substance.

I don't see her as a fill in. I think he did what Obama has done, the went with someone with the qualities he lacked. He may sway some of the female vote from clinton followers but she also offers some youth.
Just like Obama chose an older man with a lot more experience than he has...it's going to be an interesting race to watch, for sure.

What she is some body that really helped Alaska, and someone quite respected with in the party.
Her approval rating is 80% she is a great executive.
Also she is really good with energy, as Alaska deals the most in energy.
Yes she will steal female votes thats obvious, because those saying McCain is too old, could see a woman as Presdent if his health would fail.
She is also a very strong conservative more so than Romney,Lieberman.
Also she will not back down to Biden now even the VP debates wil be fun to watch.

Agreed, I'm not knocking her at all and she is a very good choice for McCain. I, too look forward to the debate. The main one is usually held here in St Louis on the Washington University campus.

Also she will be real popular with Canada cause she is a Hockey mom...lol
No in all seriousness I have a friend in Alaska, and he said they love her to death there, they are very excited.
I would like to remind people they made this announcement in Ohio, and that is the place with the worst economy in the US.

Also do not forget that Hurricane Gustov is coming, which may postpone the RNC and so in the mean time, this really keeps buzz about the republicans going, and most definately changes the news for the next couple days.
Now imagine, if Obama would have run with Hillary could have been quite a cat fight...lol

Sad, pathetic attempt by a tired, senile old man to inject his campaign with some "young blood." She may steal some women voters, but I don't think it'll matter in the end. GO OBAMA!!!

It's time to clear some things up those tax cuts Obama promised are misleading heres why.
Obama said he was going to eliminate capital gains taxes. These small businessmen generally don't pay capital gains taxes. They pay income taxes. Obama's plan is to raise the income taxes on these entrepreneurs. Telling the American people that he will cut their capital gains taxes is simply a charade; a charade the uneducated will buy.

important issues on which Bush and McCain did not agree:
McCain fought for campaign finance reform — McCain-Feingold — that Bush resisted and ultimately signed because he had no choice.
McCain led the battle to restrict interrogation techniques of terror suspects and to ban torture.
McCain went with Joe Lieberman on a tough measure to curb climate change, something Bush denies is going on.
McCain opposed the Bush tax cuts when they passed.
McCain urged the Iraq surge, a posture Bush rejected for years before conceding its wisdom.
McCain favors FDA regulation of tobacco and sponsored legislation to that effect, a position all but a handful of Republican senators oppose.
McCain's energy bill, also with Lieberman, is a virtual blueprint for energy independence and development of alternate sources.
After the Enron scandal, McCain introduced sweeping reforms in corporate governance and legislation to guarantee pensions and prohibit golden parachutes for executives. Bush opposed McCain's changes and the watered-down Sarbanes-Oxley bill eventuated.
McCain has been harshly critical of congressional overspending, particularly of budgetary earmarks, a position Bush only lately adopted (after the Democrats took over Congress).
People do you realize that almost all senate votes are unanimous, the President does not have a vote in the senate.
Using the same methodology you would probably find that most Democrat senators also voted with Bush 90% of the time.
Remember this those bills the President pushs are not passed unless their is a unanimous vote 97% of the time, this means only a few from each party will vote against it.
The Preisdent does not have a vote period, if Obama and Hillary did not make the same votes then they were not present that day, look it up for yourselves.
Now lets look at the tax relief Obama offered to the bottom 40%, the bottom 40% is about 120 million out of 300 million, this means they don't pay taxes at all, you can't offer tax relief to people who don't pay taxes, these are the same

Agreed... also another thing just mentioned is she has dealings with Russia already over fishing rights.
From everything I knew to everything I didn't.
She is the strongest female literally in the history of politics.
A avid hunter and fishermen, a member of the NRA, she just had a baby in April...damn
She beat the reigning governor in the election, and she backs down to noone, a mother of 5 kids one that has down syndrome and she knew this before the birth...wow
She cut taxes in her own state, and now I'm hearing she has an approval rating of 90% not 80... do you know how hard it is just to get 50% approval.
Most people will say being Governor is more of a challenge than being a member of the senate.
This should be looked in as a good thing she hasn't been around washington yet, she has already fought the old style of politics within the party.
This choice makes it hard for the Democrats to argue, after all Bill Clinton was Governor before President, and being a Governor has more challenges than being a senator, in the senate you vote on things or don't show up at all, as Governor you must tackle everything head on.
So Obama and Palin's experience is now null, but Biden is McCain that much is true.

Sarah Palin disregarded the Alaskan people will & protest and she authorized instead, the aerial mass slaughter of Alaskan wolves & bears because they kill a few caribou & moose each year to feed their pups & cubs, and in doing so, reduce the number of caribou & moose reserved for the wealthy Trophy Hunters, who bring money in Alaska.
She is trying to get the Polar Bears removed from the endangered species list, so that they may also be hunted & killed by Trophy Hunters for money.
She doesn't care about the protection of our wildlife & environment. She sides with Big Oil to come and drill, drill, drill in this pristine state. She's also against the women' right-to-choose, and as a believer in "faith based religious creationist" wants it taught in all the schools science classes!!
She is absolutely not what the vast majority of Americans need.
If 72 yrs McCain is disabled/died, she has absolutely no Foreign Affair experience to deal with world conflicts and crisis in a time of turmoil in Iran, Ir

fun fun fun!
let's see...
McCain, with fanfare, signed up for matching funds, then illegally used said funds to get a loan for his campaign, then decided to opt completely out of that until he discovered that he was going to be up against the strongest and most innovative fundraiser in the history of American politics...then he tried to say he was all for the whole matching funds but again...flip-flopping on his own legislation.
While initially McCain made grand spectacle opposing what is known as torture, he, in bowing to the wishes of the current administration, relaxed his stand significantly...muddling the definitions of such to, well, sanction torture.
McCain, when he was still smarting from the smacking Bush gave him in 2000, opposed the Bush 'tax-cuts' (which, for those who got a 'refund', they had to pay taxes on it the next year...but it sure felt good)...now McCain vows to make those Corporate/uber-wealthy tax cuts (the only ones it really helped) permanent. flipity-flopity
The 'Surge' is a joke...violence still continues daily...The real reason that the 'surge' appeared to have worked (oh, it was initially to last about 6 months but is now over a year and a half...which causes one to wonder about the PR sales bit of that permanent escalation) is because the cleric Sadr stood his militia down...fortunate timing...
McCain's energy plan consists of drill, drill, drill while the oil companies have thousands of acres of leased land which they have NOT drilled on...they just want more land...and it wasn't until the Paris Hilton response to his poor-taste ad that McCain conceded (actually adopted Paris' plan) that alt energies were also needed. funny funny funny
Whatever charade or show McCain put forth after the Enron scandal, NOTHING has been done to alter that situation...except for McCain to hire as his financial guru the very same crook who wrote the legislation which created those very loopholes...you know, Grahamn...
Even though McCain had made a 'show' of deriding the Bush spending earl

Even though McCain made a show of deriding the early Bush spending spree by referring to 'drunken sailors', McCain never once attempted to block said spending or vote against it...
People, do you realize that it takes 51 out of 100 votes to pass legislation onto the White House? That is far from unanimous...and thus a false figure of the Dems voting 90% of the time for Bush is quite false...in fact, there is a little thing called a filibuster, a traditional technique which, when the Dems tried, they were threatened by the Reps that they would change 200 years of Senate rules and invoke some illegal hoogum nonsense called the 'nuclear option'...yet, after the Dems regained the Senate in 2006 (after 6 years of a Rep Senate which passed everything Bush asked for...hell, Bush didn't even issue one veto until after 2006...against the very first Dem sponsored bill in 6 years...being that they weren't even allowed to bring anything to the floor), the Repubs have set a record 2X the amount of filibusters ever...yet nary a word in the Right Wing Press (main stream media which is ALL owned by willing corporate interests).

As for Obama's tax relief, as is quite obvious to anyone who paid attention to his speech, he is targeting the bottom 95% for tax cuts...the same 95% that has seen tax increases under Bush (such as the record price on gas as well as the soaring inflation which this administration does not report correctly...look at Wall Streets numbers instead)
As for that fictitious and not-mentioned-by-Obama 40%, they do pay taxes...for trust me, being in that group, I PAY TAXES...both in my paycheck as well as in the increased fees and costs of every single item for sale here in this rampant economy...and inflation IS a tax...
